It’s just bad fashion

July 10th, 2008

When I was a in 3rd grade I used to watch Punky Brewster EVERY day after school. One day I came home and she was gone and I freaked! I was so upset because instead of Punky there was this other show on. A show about a woman with red hair and a husband named Ricky Ricardo. I had never seen I Love Lucy and at the time I didn’t care to start. I was so devastated that I made my dad promise to call the TV station and find out where Punky Brewster had gone!!!

I am not sure if my dad actually made that call, but he told me that Lucille Ball had died that day and they were having an I Love Lucy marathon. My nine year old brain just did NOT understand why they would want to play that show instead of my beloved Punky! Now I really like I Love Lucy and I don’t think I could actually sit through an entire episode of Punky Brewster.

Isn’t it funny what memories stick out from childhood? Like the year I was Cindy Lauper for Halloween. A couple of years after that, I wore a hot pink headband with a hot pink fishnet mesh bow attached every day without fail. Every picture of me that year (no matter what horrible 80’s outfit I was wearing) I had my faithful hot pink headband on my head. I guess my parents just decided to pick their battles with that one. Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s pretty much guaranteed all of the pictures of me to be pretty bad in terms of fashion.

I tight rolled my pants.

I wore hyper color t-shirts. (You know the shirts that changed color when you breathed on them?)

I wore pink Reebok high tops.

I begged my mom for those jelly shoes that made my feet smell like a walrus’ butt.

I bunched my shirts to the side with those plastic clip things.

I rolled up my tshirt sleeves.

I actually wore bike shorts under stuff.

Two words…stirrup pants.

I am pretty sure that my goal was to look as much like DJ Tanner from Full House as I possibly could. I never actually saw her wear jelly shoes, but I took a chance….and I failed miserably.

Since I have had so many fashion mishaps I think it’s hard for me to buy clothes now. My favorite things to buy now are cute little black shirts. One can never have too much black clothing in my opinion. Who am I kidding? I probably could use a visit from Stacy and Clinton from What Not to Wear.

I have a few questions and comments on this one…
    1. How do you know what a walrus’ butt smells like?
    2. I don’t remember what my feet smelled like after I wore my jelly shoes, but I do know how they smell now when I take off my cute black Sketchers…I guess you could compare it to a walrus’ butt.
    3. You are the hippest SAHM I know!

I’m from the 80’s myself and I had an 80’s theme party for my 40th birthday party in April. I found me some jelly shoes at the Super Target for about $8. I don’t remember them being SOOOO uncomfortable.

lol-you are funny! I can call TLC if you want…but I personally would cry if Stacy and Clinton made fun of my clothes. I think I would have a complex for the rest of my life and never want to leave my house.
